A Beautiful Live Oak

Here’s a picture of a beautiful live oak near me–on some school grounds. I walk past it on my evening walks.

The camera didn’t catch the way the grey moss glows in the evening light. But does capture the beautiful structure.

Have a good Sunday everyone.

  1. Oh, what a beautiful tree! I have a big old “mossy” oak in my front yard. It’s the anchor tree – most of my shade plants grow underneath that beautiful old tree. I’m praying it outlives me! I’ve just gone back through a bunch of your posts that I have commented on – at least I thought I commented on them. My comments are not there! I read your answer today to the woman who said that she had trouble too but I really didn’t understand your directions on how to comment. Could you explain that a bit more? I’m sitting here, reading about the terrible shooting last night in Pennsylvania. I just can’t believe how divided our country has become. God bless America. Jan in MA

    1. I’m not sure, Jan. I just tried to reply to Mary who was writing about Retayne and my reply didn’t come up. ???? Maybe refollow again and see if that helps??? Let me know. I’ll contact WordPress for help if things don’t sort out soon. things have been strange on internet in general this past week.

  2. The moss is called Spanish moss and is prevalent in oak trees throughout the south. I grew up in a small town just north of Miami (Ojus) and daddy planted a water oak in the backyard when I was little. It had Spanish moss in it, hung so gracefully, along with a few wild orchids that had come from the Everglades.

    1. Wild orchids and moss! How beautiful. Thanks for the reminder of the moss’s name: Spanish Moss. I had forgotten. I wonder if the orchids grow in the moss here in coastal SC??? Oh boy! There’s another research rabbit hole. LOL.
