My back screen door is frozen in a mostly closed position, but the sun is coming out later. That might melt away the ice that is glueing it to the little porch step. If not, I know what to do.
There might be enough snow for industrious and determined children to make a small snow man. I suspect they will try.
It remains to be seen if the trash and recycle trucks will come today.
Snow in Charleston, SC, is very rare, of course.
It is very cold for here, and will drop to low 20s tonight. I’ve been dripping water in a bathroom faucet as the Rinnai heaters are OUTSIDE on the side of our houses. Pipes freezing is always what we dread.
And now, a lovely sew day for me.
I’ve been wondering how you are faring with that unusual weather (for SC), so I’m glad to see this post. I don’t understand about the Rinnai heaters being on the outside of the houses. How does the heat get to the inside? I heat my longarm room with a Rinnai, but it’s inside.
Definitely a good day to hunker down in the sewing room. Sunny and cold here. 5 below when I got up, 8 above now. The woodstove keeps things toasty. Happy stitching my friend.
Thanks so much for your sweet message. In Maine I always envied peope who had wood stoves. I got a generator to solve the heating problem when the electricity went out. The Rinnai heaters are for hot water–not household heat. I have a furnace inside for heat. so far, so good. Two more cold nights to come.
It’s probably too late to be helpful, but maybe for the next storm … we’re in north central Alabama and also have Rinnai water heaters. They are very nice to have, except when the temperatures stay below freezing for a time! The biggest problem we have had, by far, is that the gas in lines freezes, which, of course, really gums up the works. The plumber recommended an inexpensive solar blanket to wrap the gas lines to prevent this from happening. Probably any sort of insulation will work in a similar way.
Thank you so much! I didn’t even think about the gas lines. Who knew? I will definitely look into the solar blanket tip. This morning all is fine. I dripped water for the last two nights. My house is on the ground and not raised–so all pipes are near the ground. Did you survive this cold weather ok? Two more nights of it here.
We’re fine, once the plumber sorted out everything! I’m trying to remember what ~cold~ is like for the times in August when I can’t remember ever being comfortable LOL
LOL VAMama. Recalling the opposite season is also something I do as well when the present season is making itself felt.
