Giovanna’s First 2024 Project

My Maine friend Giovanna is a master knitter.

She sent me this picture a few days back–of her just-finished first project of 2024.

What a lovely pattern and such lovely colors.

Giovanna said she has not blocked this piece yet. It is a rectangle.

PS: I made the quilt in back of this piece for Giovanna–some years back. It was such a lovely project–made from Carolyn Friedlander fabrics and her pattern.

  1. Absolutely stunning!! I knit, but only quite simple projects, this is way over my expertise, but I so enjoy admiring someone’s talent! Thanks for sharing!

  2. Louisa, Thank you for sharing this post. I remember Giovanni, she is truly a great knitter. I remember that quilt as well. Our grandson is living with us now. I so look forward to your posts and glad to see you are thriving in SC.

  4. Louisa, I enjoy reading your blog. I’m going to ask you a favour will you please say a prayer for
my family. Giovanna’s scarf is a masterclass in knitting. There’s a film/movie called The Banshee
of Inisherin. I haven’t seen it but people have said the woman who knit the sweaters deserve an Oscar. My husband saw the movie and thought it was very sad other people didn’t like the way
Ireland was portrayed. They need to remember it was set during the civil war. Not that there’s
anything civil about war. Louisa what’s your secret for being positive? A Happy, Healthy and
peaceful 2024 to you and yours.

    1. Of course I will be carrying you and your family in my heart. Please come back when you are better and let us know, ok? My husband was 1st generation Irish–both parents immigrated. So I was aware of The Banshee of Inisherin. It’s a metaphor for us here in the States–as well as other troubled areas of the world. But it is also fairly grim, and I’ve had enough trouble and sadness keeping up with all the troubles here in America–so I have avoided movies and books that I know will overwhelm me. That’s not to say that I don’t follow closely American and global politics and especially the structural changes in the bigger economies that are ongoing. And, mostly unchecked so far. And I so agree with you that there is nothing civil about civil war. I don’t go down this road on this blog, however. I want it to be a happy place for everyone. As for myself, I am a military brat from a very patriotic family, and I married an Air Force officer who worked in intelligence during his time in the military and for many years afterwards as a civilian. My family, on both sides, has believed in and fought for this country and its Constitution for the whole of our lives. I am a survivor–one who just puts her head down and puts one foot in front of the other and moves forward, day by day–bringing with me all of the history, actual objective science, research, and lived experience I can muster. At my age, it’s all I can do, and I am determined to live each day and each minute of my life with as much joy as I can find.
