Charcoal for White Teeth

Some months back, niece Nancy Howser Gardner posted an article about using charcoal to whiten teeth.

Here’s what I bought.  The bottle is full of capsules.  You break one open (into a glass or mug), dip in your toothbrush, and lightly brush.

I was SHOCKED at how black, black, black my toothbrush got, and my teeth, and everywhere I dripped–which is why I’m suggesting a glass or mug from the get-go.  My goodness, I thought, what have I done.

And then I rinsed.

I was SHOCKED again at how WHITE MY TEETH WERE.

The plus here is that the charcoal is highly absorbent, but takes away tea tannins, coffee stains, and the like–not the minerals from your teeth or the enzymes from your mouth.

No questionable chemicals here.  Just plain old charcoal.

Oh my goodness…

The remains in my toothbrush continued to clean, too.  And I’m thinking that the more one uses the charcoal, the more absorption of dark things takes place.

Is Vitamin Water Healthy?

My niece Nancy Howser Gardner is passionately interested in healthy food and healthy practices, and it’s been really fun to watch her growing in her knowledge and in her conviction about what is best for her family.

She posted a web site about a month ago that listed and compared unhealthy drinks.  I tried to find it again and turned over lots of lists of “ten unhealthy drinks,” but not the one Nan posted.

I wasn’t surprised by the cream-based chocolate/coffee drinks.

I was surprised by three others, however.

The list said that 36 grams of sugar is a desirable daily limit of sugar.

VITAMIN WATER, touted as a healthy drink, has 32 grams of sugar.  One drink.

SoBe Green Tea has 51 grams!!!

And Minute Maid Lemonade has 67.5 grams of sugar, which is the equivalent of 16 sugar cubes.

I wonder if the sugar form is High Fructose Corn Syrup?

And what kind of vitamins are in the water?  Likely they are synthetic, cheap versions of what you should be getting from your food.

Takeaway:  If the food industry is telling you they’ve made something for you to eat or drink that is a healthy choice, send up the red warning flags and start reading the label.

The Scarf Came!

With the recent snow, I left our mail in the mailbox for a day.

When I retrieved it yesterday, there was a fat, small envelope that mystified me.

When I opened it, out fell this beautiful blue and white scarf!

My niece Nancy Howser Gardner had mailed me the scarf she had made for me as part of our bargain–red hand-knitted socks for her, a scarf for me.

It’s beautiful, and look what it goes with–my spring vest, which also has mittens and a hat of this same blue:

I might even be able to wear all of this regalia soon as we are now into our spring warming trend.  Now, my neck will be toasty warm.

Thanks, Nancy!!!  It’s beautiful, I love it, I love that you made it for me, and I love the colors.  (How did you know?)
