Backing for Bonnie Hunter’s “Grand Illusion” Mystery Quilt

On Saturday I went to two different quilt shops looking for a contemporary fabric for Bonnie Hunter’s 2014 mystery quilt, “Grand Illusion.”

I used Bonnie’s colors–and here, again, is her version of this quilt–which is based on the colors Bonnie found at the famous Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, MI:

Here’s the backing I got:

Light, contemporary, has the right colors…

And…FUN!

  1. I love the little birds~!~ I think sometimes that having the backing is enough to inspire me to FINISH the front! Are you going to pull a little bit of that backing into the front at all?

    1. Yes, the little birds are cute. I hardly ever get a backing before I finish a special quilt, like this one. But if I had, I would have wanted to put some of it into the front. I have some blue and white fabric of jay birds, and I want to use some of them on the front as you are suggesting–and use the rest for the backing. Thanks for reading my blog!
